Search for a customised cake in Kalyan and you land on a wall of national gift sites. Half-kilo eggless cakes at ₹549. Photo cakes at ₹1,499. Countdown timers, percentage-off badges, and a delivery promise for tomorrow.
Here is what those sites do not tell you: most of them do not bake anything in Kalyan. They take your order, forward it to a local bakery, and keep the margin. You pay a listing price, the bakery is paid a wholesale price, and nobody tells you which bakery made your cake.
This post is the straight version. What a customised cake costs when you order it from a shop in Kalyan, what actually moves the price, and what does not.
The starting number
At Cake Innings, customised cakes start at ₹450. That is a half kilo, one flavour, cream finish, with a message written on top. It is a real cake for a real birthday, not a loss-leader listing.
For comparison, the gifting sites serving Kalyan list half-kilo eggless cakes between ₹549 and ₹799 before any design work. You are paying the difference for a marketplace, not for cake.
What raises the price
- Weight. The biggest single factor. A kilo costs roughly double a half kilo. Work out your headcount first — see the guidance in our office cake guide.
- Fondant over cream. Sculpted fondant work — a car, a cartoon character, a handbag — takes hours of hand shaping. Cream finishes are quicker and cheaper.
- Tiers. A two-tier cake is not two cakes stacked. It needs internal support, denser sponge, and time to set.
- Photo printing. An edible print sheet is a consumable with a real cost, and the image has to be prepared properly to not look washed out.
- Premium ingredients. Fresh fruit, imported chocolate, dry fruit and nuts all move the number.
What does not raise the price
Eggless. An eggless cake costs the same as one with egg. Some shops charge a premium for it. We do not — in Kalyan the majority of orders are eggless anyway, and pricing it as a special request never made sense. More on this in our eggless cakes post.
Writing a message. A name, a date, a line of Marathi or Hindi on top — included.
Asking questions. Call and talk through options without committing. You get a quote and a pickup time on the same call.
How much notice you need
Most customised orders are ready the same day. Tiered cakes and photo-print cakes need a day’s notice, because the print has to be prepared and stacked cakes need setting time.

The thing you cannot get from an app
You can watch your cake being made. Our kitchen is open to the shop floor, so if you are collecting in person you can see the cake being finished rather than receiving a sealed box and hoping.
It sounds like a small thing. It is the difference between a cake matching your expectations and a cake that technically matches the description.
